Improvements and Maintenance of City Parks We face a dichotomy when it comes to our parks system. While we are able to allocate available SDC collections as dedicated funds to acquire properties and build parks we lack the funds within the General Fund to barely maintain the parks that already get active use. Support for organized recreation programs is also limited. During the review of various suggestions to handle the projected gap funding for the General Fund the proposal to look at the formation of a Parks District was raised. The Council also made a recent decision to proceed with rudimentary improvements at the Gradin Sports Park property to open two soccer and two ball fields for available play by early next year. Already generous donations are being committed to this project as partnerships are being formed amongst the City, private business, non-profit service organizations, and citizen volunteers to create a multi-faceted community park.
