Paul Warr-King is the current President of the Gresham City Council.
We sincerely would like your vote to re-elect him to Position 5 of the City Council.

Improvements and Maintenance of City Parks

We face a dichotomy when it comes to our parks system.

While we are able to allocate available SDC collections as dedicated funds to acquire properties and build parks we lack the funds within the General Fund to barely maintain the parks that already get active use. Support for organized recreation programs is also limited. During the review of various suggestions to handle the projected gap funding for the General Fund the proposal to look at the formation of a Parks District was raised.

When a comparison is made to the success of the Tualatin and Clackamas Parks Districts this makes sense but could put another burden on taxpayers. However when you assess the well known intangible benefits of parks to a community for the livability of all its citizens and providing organized after-school activities to keep kids occupied this is worth considering again in the near future.

In the meantime plans are proceeding for a skate park to be built next year in Main City Park. Main City Park also now has a master plan for redevelopment with phased in planned improvements dependent on internal funding and State and Federal grant funding.

The Council also made a recent decision to proceed with rudimentary improvements at the Gradin Sports Park property to open two soccer and two ball fields for available play by early next year. Already generous donations are being committed to this project as partnerships are being formed amongst the City, private business, non-profit service organizations, and citizen volunteers to create a multi-faceted community park.
